Overview
This Sahara Festival Dream Tour will take us from the imperial red city of Marrakech across the magnificent Atlas mountains into the dreamy golden dunes of the Sahara desert. Our discovery starts in the mountains. A place that is home to splendid landscapes dotted with snow-capped peaks, lush green valleys and sprinkled with the clay homes of the nomadic Amazigh population. We will then be immersing ourselves in the local Saharan culture and heritage. The climax of our road trip is the desert Festival Taragalte. A Festival that highlights North and West African nomadic cultures.
You’ll come to truly feel the difference between a traveler and a foreigner. Forget the ‘chi chi frou frou’ instagrammable, romanticized Morocco. We want you to connect with our traditional (North) African culture.
Yes
Yes, there will be breathtaking Riads, luxurious palaces and Souqs but what makes Morocco so unique is the warmth of its people and the blend of African, Arab and Amazigh heritage. If you love a genuine experience, bring a notebook, a camera, an open heart, a pair of dancing feet and your sense of adventure.
Taragalte Festival
Every year since 2009, the dunes of M'Hamid el Ghizlane have been home to Nomads and desert lovers for a one-of-a-kind festival, celebrating desert lifestyles, nomadic artistic and cultural heritage, and music and dance of the world. This festival offers a real journey to the heart of the ancestral way of life of nomads with traditional dance performances, cooking workshops, star gazing, listening to poetry around the fire, camel races, yoga and meditation or music concerts. But also exhibitions of Sahara crafts and local products, debates in the middle of the dunes around the social and economic development of the M'Hamid region or conferences on the vulnerability of oasis ecosystems in the face of climate change. This event, which is enjoying growing success, aims to bring people together across borders and has become one of the most popular cultural events in the oasis areas of Morocco. The festival is named after Taragalte, the former name of M'Hamid el Ghizlane. This “Gazelle plain” was the last oasis before the camel convoys crossed the desert. It revives the old traditional festival of Moussem which celebrated the end of the date season and the return of the great caravans. These convoys returning from Timbuktu had, in addition to their commercial purpose, a crucial role in the development of cultural exchanges between peoples. This festival respects the natural space it defends. The Taragalte festival is committed to an eco-responsible approach with organized waste management and controlled environmental impact. Today, these three days of celebration from which we will enjoy 2 offer an experience steeped in history and art, at the gates of the desert and invite you to rediscover the magic of the Sahara.
